An Array of Awards

Once a Victim ~ Now a Survivor Award

Once a Victim ~ Now a Survivor Award

Receiving awards on my blog makes me both thrilled and nervous. After all, people love hearing that their work is appreciated. However, knowing how to accept that compliment graciously is not as simple as many Oscar recipients make it seem. Many cultures teach us to feel a strange sense of shame in appreciating compliments. I wonder where that began.

Anyway, here are some awards that have piled up over the past year. I am very grateful for them and look forward to passing them on to other wonderful bloggers.

Awards Galore and What to Do with Awards?

Since December, I have received several awards but not blogged about them. However, my decision to not post on them was not simple forgetfulness. For the past few months, the concept of blogging awards has bothered me. Am I serving you, my readers, by accepting and giving awards? Is this seen as prideful, boring, or a waste of time? Do people enjoy reading about and getting awards?

After thinking over this, I came to a final decision. For now, awards will still be a part of my blog. That might change in the future, but for now, they still serve an important purpose of honoring others and learning to accept compliments. However, instead of focusing on each award in a separate post, I am going to update all of my award nominations every three to four months. That seems like a reasonable amount. Please give me any feedback about this choice, better ideas, and your thoughts about blogging awards.

The LindaMadHatter Jesters Award

Anyway, that is enough about my decision. Here are the awards that I was nominated for by wonderful fellow bloggers. First of all, I was nominated by Linda Mad Hatter and Lost in the Labyrinth for the LindaMadHatter Jesters Award. This award is for any blogger who deserves it, for whatever fun loving reason.

Second Star for the Blog of the Year 2013

Blog of the Year

Blog of the Year

Today, my family is celebrating the birthday of my little brother Mario by going to a train museum before Christine leaves for Mexico.  Speaking of her, I am going to shamelessly promote her blog.  You can follow her at La Gringa.  She is pretty much the opposite of me – funny, charismatic, practical, outgoing, zany, charming.  Although she is not a writer, her blog should be full of fun stories and crazy thoughts.

Speaking of wonderful things, I was nominated for the Blog of the Year Award 2013 by hopeandloveradio.  This is the second star for me.  Although 2013 has now ended, I hope that I can continue to nominate and accept this award.  One of the fun things about this particular award is that you can receive it up to six times.

Awesome Blossom Award

Awesome Blossom Award

Flowers have always held a special place in my life.  I view them as symbols of beauty, growth, strength, and grace.  Obviously, they have beauty because they stand out from the grass and dirt with lovely colors and shapes.  Growth helps them to become stronger and endure despite the weather, temperature, and animals.  Then their grace can be seen in how they seem to dance in the wind.  Flowers just seem to exude these qualities.

Thus, I was excited when Belsbror nominated me for the Awesome Blossom Award.  Being thought of as cultivating my garden or blog touched me deeply.  Thank you so very much!

The Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award and Blog of 2013 Award

This morning has been rather odd.  Being finals week, my school schedule is jumbled and a bit confusing.  Although a break for Christmas will be nice, I already miss the steadiness and sense of community.  Winter break is going to be a long, difficult time.  However I am determined to focus on recovery and try my best to enjoy family.

Anyway, there are two awards I was just nominated for and excited to accept.  Both come from great bloggers who you should check out.  Seeing these awards was a pleasant surprise on a rather drab day.

Duet Awards

Music used to play a huge role in my life.  As a baby, I quieted when my mother sang or played tapes for me.  Playing the piano began at such a young age that I cannot remember being unable to read music.  Then for years I took voice lessons, sang in choir, or devoted my time to the piano.

However, my voice is now weak and unreliable  because of restricting food.  Pain fills my lungs along with oxygen whenever I attempt to sing.  For months, I have pretended that I did not care.  After all, writing is my passion not singing.  Music does not need to be part of of my life.

The Leibster Award

First of all, I want to thank Nicole at Dearest Depression for the nomination for the Liebster Award!  Her blog address faith, depression, and hope.  If you have not read it yet, I suggest that you do so.  Previously I wrote about this award when I received it, but I hope that you do not mind me accepting and sending it on again.

First of all, I am going to answer ten questions from Nicole that she gave to each nominee.

Hatred or Humility?

Versatile Blogger Award

Wow, I love spreading around these awards! There are so many amazing bloggers on WordPress. To be honest, I feel rather guilty when I receive one because I read so many amazing bloggers.  However, I try to remember that this is about honoring others.  If you want to do this for others, you have to allow them to do it for you.

So I know that I won the Versatile Blogger Award before but this is a different one (I think).  Thank you so much to The Empathy Queen for her nomination!  Her blog is truly inspiring and beautiful.  I suggest that you click on the link and look at her blog.  I won this award a while ago so I am just going to link her.

The Leibster Award

After a challenging few days at school, I was so excited to come home and see that I had been nominated for another award.  This time it is the Liebster Award from Finding Beauty in Spite of Myself.   Her blog is wonderful!  I advise that you all go and check it out.  This award is for beginning bloggers with 200 or less followers.  This is very exciting to receive because I am almost at 200 (unless you count Facebook and Twitter which brings my numbers up) but not quite there.

For the past few days, I have debated posting about awards or other content.  So before I accept this award, I wanted to just say a few words.  This is an issue that has been bugging me a great deal recently.

One Lovely Blog Award

One Lovely Blog Award Well, I am very honored and excited to once again thank Maria at Lost in the Labyrinth for a nomination for a blogging award.  This is called the “One Lovely Blog Award.”  There are no rules that go along with it but I figured that I would do something a bit fun.  Since today is the 17th of September, I figured that I would write eight random fact about myself and then nominate nine people.  If I nominate you, please feel free to pass on the award to as many people as you like and follow suit by writing facts about yourself.
