Wow. My last Thankfulness Thursday was in February of last year. Lately, my thoughts have drifted to dark and ungrateful places. My hope by bringing back these days is to encourage me to enjoy life in a new culture even when it is difficult.
1166. Spicy food – I never liked spicy food back in the US. To be honest, I never really tried it but convinced myself that I couldn’t take it. Here, nearly everything is spicy. It’s difficult to eat at times but so delicious. I’m realizing that I’m tougher than I thought.
At times, words seem to flood from my mind to my fingers and onto a page or computer screen. Other times, the phrases and concepts drip like a leaky faucet. Even that is better than when the water is turned off completely and nothing will come out at all.
Writing is never easy. Sure, it can be fun or a release. However, if you truly want to write, you will find the task very difficult at points. However, that should not scare you away because there are many positive elements. Here are some of them.
1155. Expressing yourself – Writing how I feel is often easier for me than saying it. Strangely enough, I can also better verbally express myself after writing about it.
There are cons to living away from home but also pros.
Living out of state has been harder in some ways than I had guessed it would be. The snowy winters, family members being close, friends who I grew up with – all of these things are very missed.
Yet, there are many blessings about living in a new place too. Here are some of the reasons that I am grateful that I ventured out into the world.
1144. Being forced to grow up – Living close to home would have made it harder for me to actually grow up. I wouldn’t have wanted to move out of my home or get out of the house as much. Being thousands of miles away makes me do things on my own for the first time.
Having tea and relaxing sounds nice but is hard to do.
Right now, I am taking a break from work for several reasons including going home to get some rest. This is a great blessing, but I am very nervous about it. Resting is something hard for me to understand in recent years. Although I long to sit and rest, my body craves doing something physical while my mind yearns to be productive.
So, instead of fretting about my restlessness, I am going to say what I am thankful for regarding breaks from work. Cue another list of thankfulness although this is not Thursday.
1133. Time to think – It is hard having time to spend with your thoughts when you are so busy. I am looking forward to having more time to really know what I need and want.
Yesterday, my friend and I went to Downtown Disney to see a movie and walk around the stores. Then, we went to the Magic Kingdom to see Celebrate the Magic twice, the Wishes fireworks, and the Electrical Parade. All of it was so wonderful. In fact, it was one of the best days in a long time. Here are some of the elements that I loved about it.
1119. The lights on Main Street -They are so beautiful especially when the park becomes less crowded
I never really liked going to weddings. Yes, they were pretty but also full of people, noise, and stress. Often, I became so anxious that I felt sick and begged my mother to let me stay home. However, being in Katie’s wedding was wonderful. About a year and a half ago, I wrote about my friend Ruth’s wedding and thankfulness. Here are more reasons that I am thankful for weddings.
1110. The bride and her father -Seeing them is one of the saddest but most touching parts of a wedding. It makes me cry more than any other part.
There are numerous magical places to go to around Disney World such as attractions. Here are just of a few that I have noticed so far and would suggest. Some are crazy busy and popular while others are easier to get into and enjoy.
1098. Epcot World Showcase in Epcot -Honestly, this whole park is my favorite. Walking through each of the “countries” is magical especially in the evening with the pretty lighting.
Emily and I after we recieved our Mickey Mouse ears
Today was long but still good for the most part. I just hope that I will be able to learn everything and start making the guests feel magical instead of constantly worrying about doing the right thing.
For Thankfulness Thursday though, I wanted to honor the great friends that I have made here at Disney. All of them have touched me greatly, and I love each one already so much!
1088. Emily – She was the first one I met because she contacted me on Facebook about being roommates. Her joyous smile, sweet personality, infectious laugh, and strong spirit make her a wonderful friend!
Starting again with Thankfulness Thursday, I am excited to go over my last week and the wonderful moments of being at Disney. Although there have been difficult moments, most of the program has been wonderful. Plus, I am in the happiest place on earth which is certainly something to celebrate.
1077. Awesome roommates – The five girls that I am with are so lovely, kind, funny, and helpful. They are all such blessings to have as roommates and friends.
1078. Warm weather – Being in the 90’s and 80’s is strange but lovely. Sure, it is a bit much at time, but I love it for the most part. Continue reading →
